Here is a strange one. I have a '02 F4i with 15,300 miles on it, she is my daily rider, over the last few days I have started to hear a strange click like sound that happens when 1. shifting into 3rd at lower RPMs and 2. when I hit a decent sized bump in the road. It sounds almost as if something were bouncing off of the gas tank from underneath. I have taken the farings off and search like mad to find it but have found nothing so far.

After looking at the threads on here I have not found any one bringing this question up yet, but I am new to the site. Any sugetions?

I have had the bike for 6 years now and have never noticed this sound before. Again it is a loud sound that I can hear at higway speeds with a helmet on and it does not happen at any given RPM range nor is it a continuos sound. Just one click and it is gone for some time.

 

Taking a wild guess here (I'm no mechanic), but I think you're hearing two separate noises in each instance.

I think you may be hearing an issue you have with your third gear synchros in the transmission making a noise (or something similar, I dunno), and when you hit some potholes you're just hearing your suspension bottoming out or some other part of the bike is just bouncing and making a noise. I hear things like that all the time.

Well now it has all gone bad. Friday while riding home from work every time I shifted or released the clutch it made that click and I had false neutrals in 3, 4 and 5 gear. I think it is time to tear into her and see what is wrong.
