Loud clack shifting out of neutral

So I bought a used 2002 f4i about 4-5 months ago and it's done me great. I'm enjoying learning to stunt on it and modding to how i like.
I am a bit new to riding still and don't know a whole lot.
This past week my clutch cable somehow disconnected from the swingarm at the end while i was riding.
I had to get it the 10-15 minutes home in first gear without using the clutch.
Upon attaching reattaching the clutch cable and running the bike, I noticed that it now makes a much louder clack than normal when i go from neutral into first and a bit when going into second.
I took apart the clutch assembly and all the plates look fine. I have the clutch cable properly adjusted.
Does anyone have any idea what else might be wrong with the bike? Should I just take it to a shop?

Sounds like you have your clutch cable adjusted differnet so it's not pulling the clutch in as far as it was previously.

Is your idle at stock 1300ish rpm or do you have it cranked up when putting the bike in gear?

Yeah, sounds like the cable is terribly worn or mis-adjusted.

(and you know with a little practice you can easily shift without the clutch, but taking off from a dead stop is a tad tricky)
