Loose chain
 

I've noticed the chain on my bike has gotten a little loose. It has way too much slack I know for sure, I can hear it rattling around when I ride so I was wondering how I can adjust it or do I have to buy a new one and how much would a new one be?

you should be able to adjust it unless it is old. have to loosen up the rear axle then at the end of the swing arm on both sides are adjusters. i am sure someone can explain it better than i lol. it isnt that hard to adjust though.

i am in need of a new 525 chain myself pretty soon.
was thinking d.i.d. anyone know of a good site to get one?
the mechanic i take my bike to said it was about 150 for a good one.
just wondering if i can find a better deal online.

Judging from your question I would think you a fairly new to riding.
If I were you I would just take it to the local bike shop and they should charge you like $10 or so to tighten it for you. It a 3 minute job.

look at your manual.. learn to do it by yourshelf or sell the bike.. cuz you have to do it around every 500 km.. depending of agressive you run the bike

If you do not feel comfortable doing it yourself or you lack the proper tools, follow the advice of jeffjones, and go to a local shop and ask them to do it BUT explain to them you are unclear and would like to watch and learn. Food for thought.

I messed up over tightening the axle nut the first time I did mine.

I stripped the threads on the bolt and the axle.

If you do decide to DIY, get the proper tools ie torque wrench and metric wrenchs.

i suggest make friends with a mechanic...that is what i sort of did :)

Chains are so easy to adjust and so basic that it's the first thing I learned how to do on my 500 when I was a new rider. Learn how to clean it, lube it, and adjust it properly and your chain will last for awhile.

Try getting a Clymer Manual, they have good step by step instructions and good tips for newbies.
