Looking to buy an F4i

I've come across an F4i that have been wrecked and the seller wants $1k. I looked it over and was able to get it to start. I tested the voltage going into the battery and it's good (14.5 v). The thing is, the bike needs a lot of work such as an entire front end, ALL plastics, headlight, battery, brake levers, and radiator to even begin to think about doing test rides. There's much more, but that is the major stuff. Due to all the work and money I would have to put into the bike, I was thinking of of offering $700. By the way, the bike does have a clean title. Am I piching too high?

You sure you wanna get into that? Sounds like a hella work along with lots of Ebay trolling.

I'd start at $500 and start tossing in all the work you'll have to do to make it ridable. Heck you have to haul it away. If he mentions the word "Parts" remind him of all the hassle disassembling, advertising and shipping will cost his time.

If it's mechanically solid in all the major areas, it's worth $1k, especially with a clean title. It's up to you if it's worth putting the money in to make it a decent-looking street bike. But it's a great way to get a fresh palette on a bike to customize it the way you want.

+1 Aken. You can try to low ball him a little, but it is worth about that, mine was laid down, bent subframe, needed new chain and sprocket. i got it for $2100. and those are all easy fixes. sounds like you have a lot more work than i did, good luck! (keep an eye out for a bike that's put together eh?)

I got mine for $1700 and all it needed was new plastics. 30k miles, but runs great. Aftermarket fairings are real cheap, though (like $500 shipped). I'd jump on it, perfect time to fix it up for spring and have a bike that is 100% yours since you are gonna have to re-do just about everything

Multiply whatever you "think" it is going to cost you to fix by 1.5 and then determine if it is worth it. Personally, you are probably better off just spending the next few months saving money and buy one that is 100%....
