Hey was just reading this post and read your little post. I think I can relate to you here since I'm 18 as well hehe. . . and I'm 6'1 145! so not much off haha!

Anyways, I took the MSF and everything when I was 16 got a dirtbike rode it for a little while and now I own an 06 f4i. Might I add have you checked into insurance yet? I'm getting an excellent deal on it right now $495 every 6 months. But the problem is my insurance is screwing me, I have a perfect driving record (knock on wood) and as of June they are bumping my insurance up to $2000 a year, so I'm screwed until I turn 19 which is going to be that same month so it'll work out good I think because then it's going to drop to $600 every 6 months.

Since you car just got totalled did your insurance company bump up the price of it? Even if it wasn't your fault that is?

But back to the bike part, if your mature enough and not stupid and practice I believe you can ride it without a problem. I still haven't goten mine really going up there yet because if I do and get caught that's the end of my bike because of insurance so you have to be smart. Other than that good luck with everything and let us know how it goes.

I'm loving my bike so far so I hope you will too if you get one. (I reccoment taking the MSF first too by the way as well. It really helps in learning how to ride too since you quite haven't yet.)

thanks for the advice guys, and ive gotten some quotes fro this bike online, and it looks like i can gte it insured on PL PD pretty cheap..like $20-40 a month, and ive looked around at other bikes and i like the 600RR, but i know the f4i is more for me since ive sat on them both and i liked the feel of the f4i, and this will be a daily driver for me to work and school and what-not, not just for pleasure riding...and my accident was partially my fault..it was in a parking lot where there were no markings, and i pulled out in front of a lady who was speeding, and i do know where my family is coming from here, and its not like i havent thought of these things myself, but i am in no way a dumb driver, and ill def be checking into that MSF course, and i dont ever intend on riding without at least a helmet, and i plan on wearing full gear on any rides longer than up to the gas station

 

Might I add your one lucky guy to find insurance that cheap :P

What snow covered state do you live in where you can get an '04 for $4200? Make sure that it isn't a salvaged title. And again, $20-30 a month for insurance seems damn cheap for an 18 year old.

Maybe I just live in the wrong state (Southern CA).

 

wow you guys are paying alot for insurance. I pay 210 a year for full coverage on an 02

 

The f4i's hp is around 97/98 while the yzf600 is sub 90. But given the way a yamaha feels, a honda would prolly be easier to adapt to.

Either way, even though I love my f3, i would never recomend it as a first bike(even first sport bike) unless that persona had years of experience. Too much power if you are used to riding bike where you can open the throttle all the way with little consequence.

I know you don't want to hear this, but I don't think it would be wise to get this as a first bike.
Take the MSF before doing anything else. See how that goes.
Get a used 250 to start out on. (ninja 250, rebel etc). It will hold its value well, and come a year from now you can resell it for what you bought it for, AND THEN get the bike you want. That is what I am currently doing, and it is the only SMART way to do it.
Also, read read read. Read everything you can get your hands on.
The other thing I would add, is to buy the gear first! Then the bike. I know it sounds backwards, but if you buy the bike first you will ride around for weeks (or months) without proper gear.

First off the f4i was my first bike and i never rode a bike before. I had riddend a 4 wheeler like twice. I learned how to ride the bike in one night (fundementals wise) And was schedule for the msf two weeks after the bike was purchased. I think i made a good choice on the bike as it beign my first but it does have a nice lil kick to it which i have found out on accident (hehe) So if you are responible enough then yea its an ok deal but thats the key knowing when to just ride and not try to keep up with the jones's in the night street life.



Im curious about the insurance thign also. DO you guys have full coverage for the bike, just comprehensive or liability. I can see the low prices with liability but i am paying 105 just for comprehensive which will be bumped up again in a few weeks since my bike is just parked right now except for occ crank up around the neighboorhood.

I think i was paying close to1200 a year maybe more im in the middle of changing from progressive which was 155 a month.


Im 23 no accidents on my record that can count. Had license a year, went through msf, in the honda club riders and im military(which helps with insurance most of the time.)

 

dude screw an f4i. go out and get yourself an rc51 or like a 929 if you wanna save a few bucks and don't take that crappy msf course either. Also I wouldn't even get insurance! what a waste! lol omgzor interwebs kk!
