Default legal integrated lights?

So i'd like to do the "DIY integrated tail" on this forum to my CBR but i've been thinking about the legality of it. if I cut off the fender and mount my license plate directly under the tail light on the remnants of the fender, will illumination of the plate be an issue? I heard that your license plate is required to be lit by a white light, but if I remove the fender the light that illuminated the plate will be gone as well. anyone have a way aruond this or do you just hope a cop doesn't notice?

Illumination of the plate is one issue. Most jurisdictions, the laws state that the plate must be lit at all times with white light, and that the light not be visible directly, just off the plate. Another problem with the integrated tail is the (also most laws require) minimum distance BETWEEN the rear turn signals. This probably varies depending on where you are, but most places they're required to be something like 10" to 16" apart.

Wen I bought my bike the previous owner did the integrated tail. I was gonna bring my bike to get inspected by a dealership and asked him if I would pass...He said yes, but he said it would be the cops that I would have to worry about.

In the almost four years I've had my F4i (which I bought with a cut down fender), I've never had the unlit plate mentioned to me, and I've been pulled over on the bike 3-4 times.

I have been pulled over before and the cop did not mention anything about the plate not being illuminated. I think most of the time they just assume things like that are all in working order without checking.
