Default Just picked up a 03!

Hey all,

I'm excited to be a new owner of a 03 black and silver in prestine condition. Only has 1400 miles when I picked her up! Completely stock, just how I like it, so I can add my own mods. My last bike was a 93 F2. What a difference 10 years make. Sold the F2. The new bike is better in everyway! Both had pretty similar color schemes.

I have been riding for about a year and half and have been enjoying it ever since!

I included some pictures of both!

This has been bugging me. If you look at the F4i picture, the exhaust and mid pipe is gold/purple. I don't see this on any of the other F4i. Is this normal? Is it running too rich/lean or hot?

I hope to learn more from all of you!

Be careful with her and stay safe!

When it hit 240 it was at a stop light. I can't remember how hot it gets when i'm moving but it comes down for sure...

Funny thing is that on my 93 the needle would never go above half. Not sure how hot that is but it seemed to stay cooler than the 03.

240 is when damage to the engine starts to happen i think ...mine stays at like 180* most of the time on a nice day never goes more than 220 when stopped on a 90* day. You will want to watch your temperature more closley.

yea 240 is way hot, i'm surprised it hasnt been overheating on you. a healthy f4i runs around177-180 on the highway, and putting around and stopping at lights gets up to about 220-227, 224 is when the fan kicks in on most models. ive heard 233-234 is overheating..may want to look at the filter, it being an 03, may have never been changed, if that doesnt cool it down any, take it to the dealer

other than that, have fun, you will really like the f4i, i do!!

Thanks for the replies!

I will ride around today after work and see where the temp is. I know the fan turns on and off so maybe it is right around the correct temp.

Which filter are we talking about that I want to check? Oil filter? I last owner said the oil and filter was changed at 600 miles. Should I change again to make sure?
