Just bought a F4i Streetfighter - fan missing?
I just bought a 2001 F4i that's been made into a streetfighter. I just realized that it doesn't have the radiator fan. Is this a concern? Do these bikes easily overheat? What's a normal running temperature and what's considered "bad"?
I sometimes get stuck in stop and go traffic from work so I just want to make sure I wouldn't cause any damage to the bike. |
Doing 40+ MPH your temp should be somewhere around the 180's. When sitting the fan technically comes on around 220. IMO, 240 and up is bad.
Also, I actually just got back from lunch on my bike. It's currently 72 right now and while sitting at a stop light, within 3 - 5 mins. my temp went up from 184 to 220 until the fan kicked on. I wouldn't feel comfortable riding the bike with no fan, especially if you're in stop and go traffic. |
Get a fan immediately.
Edit: Are you sure it's missing? I don't see why a fan would be removed just cause the bike was turned into a street fighter. The fan is BEHIND the radiator. |
This is pretty bad in my opinion. Stop and go traffic will be a challenge.

just a thought... wouldn't you NEED a fan if you have a stunt bike since stunting consists of a lot of low speed tricks?

Lot of guys install a kill switch on their fan for stunting but usually don't take them off.. The bike actually gets hotter stunting in a parking lot then cruising down the road..

Guys install a switch on their fan so they can have it running all the time. When i'm at the lot and my bike's temp is high i take a quick run to the end of the road as fast as i can to cool down the bike. Some of my buddy's have actually added a fan to their f4i's.
