Installing bar end mirrors (help)

3 Attachment(s)
Ok guys. So I've ordered some nice bar end mirrors for my 04 f4i. Just got them today and I ran into a problem when trying to have them installed. I've taken the current bar ends off only to find out there is this metal piece right behind it, which prevents me from inserting the mirrors into the handlebars (check pix).
After looking at the service manual I figure they are the inner handlebar weights, which I've tried to move but was unsuccessfull. Can anyone tell me how to do this? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

did you try screwing in a screw and pulling it out?

thats what the barend screws into and posse to lock it in place.

your mirriors look as they pose to mount to a hollow bar like aftermarket ones are n not the solid ones like the stock ones are.

Ok according to the service manual, there is a tab tha you will need to bend down and then use the screw to pull the weight out. You will need to pull the grips off to expose the hole that the tab stickes up through.

i see. i will definitely need a second pair of hands for that. do i just get rid of the weights after pulling them out?

I would think that you would not be able to keep them in there.
I remember a thead on here that someone filled the clipon with fishing weight to reduce vibration.

Why do you need another set of hands? Just bend the tab and pull it out.

use an air compresser to get the grips off.

ok so i decided to take an alternate route by using different size screws (ones that fit in the inner weights) + some spacers. it looks good imo.
