Personally, I would get rid of it. It's like a ghetto Power Commander.

Yea, That thing looks sketchy! I'd remove it no matter how well you think your bike runs. A simple failure, and say good bye to your motor.

Apparently its been on there since I bought my bike last year and I havent had any problems. Should I just take it off like that?

A quick google shows that it's just a resistor that tricks the ECU into thinking the incoming air is colder than it really is. Piece of junk. Toss it. You're not gonna hurt your bike by removing it.
