Default Ideal Bike Temps?

I looked through a few pages with the search option and, a few threads that seem relevant but, I couldn't find all that I was looking for.

I was wondering what rough numbers should be for temperatures during idle, in town/city sort of riding and, freeway type cruising.

I'll start off with giving the rough figures I've experienced thus far, I'm not accustomed to having a temp gauge or any thing other than a speedometre or odometre so, all of this stuff fascinates me and I want to see if this bike is up to par.

Idle: Usually around the 60C°'s once it's at a normal idle (about 1500rpm)

In town/city riding: This varies a fair bit, any where from low/mid 60C°'s to mid 70C°'s, a few times it's been in the very low 80°'s - I've seen it in that temp maybe two or three times max.

Freeway: cruising in sixth gear, speeds between 110kph and 130kph are usually mid 40C°'s to low 50C°'s if I'm at a steady pace.

The outside temperature/weather I've been riding in has been light to medium rain, and the temps have been around 5-8C°. I also usually cruise at around 3700-4700rpm in general.

Edit: There is a concern that has brought the temp into question as, about three or four times I've had some grey smoke come up from the left front fairing (inside near the forks/bars), which just has a generic burning sort of smell. Initially it scared the **** out of me but, it was raining a fair bit that day, and it only seems to have smoked in the rain and after I've stopped riding and let the bike idle so, I'm thinking it may just be water that's accumulated some where along the fairing and then gets pour down onto the head/pipes once the bike is tilted side ways for parking. I asked my guy at the local dealership about it as I was concerned it could be coolant, he said it should have a sweet smell to it..the best I can compare the smell to is kin to a sort of burnt rubber smell, the smoke itself varies from very noticeable to a few streams or so and either times only lasts about 10 seconds tops. The temps during these "smokes" haven't been any thing extreme either, around the usual in town riding that was mentioned afore.

I've had the smoke out the front but that has cleared up after a bit of a blast from a power hose over the radiator seemed to sort out the worst of it.

My running temps are usually around the 80 Celsius mark while riding, have hit 100 while idling. A bit concerned that this is now very high in comparison to yours!

82c / 180f at highway speeds.

110c / 230f is the max you want to see while sitting in traffic, but also normal.

50c / 104f is barely even warmed up enough to register on the temp gauge. i dont see how you can be getting those temps while cruising, unless someone removed the thermostat (which is bad).

Im using google temp calculator

BTW,
Any type of smoke is NOT normal. Give it a good lookover.
I've ridden in rain many times and never got a burning smokey smell.

Your bike seems to run very cold, unless I totally forgot how to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit. Like the others, I'm in the 170-180 Fahrenheit range (76-82 C) when riding at highway speeds. In stopped or slow traffic the fan kicks on when I hit about 225 F (107 C).

The bike isen't overheating until it hits 250F. Anything below that is acceptable.

Cool, cool..sounds like the temps aren't too warm. Thanks for all the replies thus far.

Do keep in mind though, the temps I've been riding in these last six days have been around 39*F to 43-45*F so, on the cool side and, if I'm on the freeway doing 60-65mph (75-80mph tops) in sixth gear with all that cool air coming into the front intakes, it's going to be on the colder side - thus why I mentioned the average temperature I had been riding in on my initial post as, I do expect it to run a fair bit hotter once Summer rolls around.

Sick: I'm still perplexed about the smoking thing, I'm paranoid it's coolant related. I plan to drain and flush all the fluids on this bike within the week here, I have a strong suspicion it's in dire need of an oil change as it doesn't pull as hard as I think it should in higher RPMs so, I'm thinking the lifters are a bit gunked up.

There are no lifters in the engine. Check valve clearance, change plugs, oil and air filter. Check compression if your still worried.

Haha shows what I know eh! I will have to have my much more mechanically inclined and tech savvy brother take a look over things if the oil change doesn't improve the top end performance. Oddly enough, the PO did give me a set of new plugs for the bike.

Can you let me know if you find a cause for the smoking thing? My bike is doing something similar and seems to be coming from the left side (when sitting on the bike) more than the right as you described. I've got a bit of a break from work coming up in a week and a half so will give mine a good look over then.
