I used to feel the same way about 1/8 mile... the trick is to get a few 1/4 mile passes under your belt. Get all your 1/4 mile timeslips together and divide the 1/4 mile ET by the 1/8 mile ET... this will give you a conversion factor for your bike.
The conversion factor (for a given car/bike) can be used to calculate 1/4 mile ET based on the 1/8 mile ET, and is very accurate. I actually made an excel spreadsheet using my conversion factor, so I know what 1/4 mile ET I can expect.
I agree the 1/4 mile is way more fun, but the 1/8 is great for practicing staging and launch technique.
For what it's worth, my conversion factor is roughly 1.52, and I pick up a little over 22 mph on the big end.
For my bike, an 8.0 @ 95 mph would equal roughly 12.0-12.1 @ 117 mph.
