I lost my key, can I just buy a new ignition???

I lost the key to my bike about 2 weeks ago and a locksmith said it would be 185 for them to come make me a new key which is outrageous. I found brand new ignition switches with 2 keys on ebay for 30 bucks. Can I just pull off the old one and plug in the new one? and itll work?

You never made a spare?

Find a new locksmith. You should be able to take your bike to the locksmith's shop & have a new key made for $40 or less. You could just take the ignition to him as well.

There's several ways to go about this...obviously if you replace ignition you need to replace gas cap and seat lock as well (or just drill them out so they work with any key)

If you can get the code off the ignition or gas cap, the locksmith may be able to spit one out off of that. the gas cap is 6 cuts and the ignition is 8...

If I get a new gas cap and ignition combo off ebay for like 40 is it a easy swap? I know the gas cap is but is the ignition just the two screws and unplug it? Plug in new one and im ready to go?

When I bought my bike it only came with one key, and knowing myself didn't want to be in a situation of only having one key...THAT'S LOST! I ended up having a couple spares made...one to use for riding, and a couple to stash in different safes in-case I temporarily misplaced one. Even though I have spare keys, I still get super paranoid if do end up misplacing one.

Yes, there are benefits to "thinking ahead"! A little thought, time, and money goes a long way. As the Boy Scouts say, "Be Prepared".
