How to tell if have HISS
Hi,
I got a 2001 CBR600 FS, how can I tell if I have the Honda HISS installed on it, or is it installed by default. It has a sticker on the tank saying Honda HISS but there is no red led anywhere so was wondering if I do actually have it installed. This is a UK bike by the way...
Cheers.

Hi,
what is your ECU model?
The USA models are 38770-MBW-A12 (and 38770-MBW-L11 CA model, I think) These ones does not have the HISS.
The 38770-MBW-D21, D31, D41, D71, F21, G11, G71........ Are EU models. With HISS.
Also, on the ignition lock should have a little gizmo with "HISS" written on it.
That should be the code reader. It should have a wire attached, routing to a wire harness.
Finally, yes, you should have a red light on your tacho, on the rev counter, with a little key pic next to it...
BTW - the key and the ECU are coded together. The reader is just a reader, exchangeable...
(I never took a good look at any of these, so I'll do it just to check if I "lied" anything here, and reply later on...
p.s. - check cbrworld.net/forums/thread/299256.aspx you might find some useful info... (I just realised I permuted the 38770-MBW-A12 and 38770-MBW-L11 models. I just checked - these are right A12 & L11 - I'll change that in original post also...)

These days the bikes are nicked by the following scenario:
Few rats come with a van near the bike, cut the chain with the bolt croppers, lift the bike in the van, and they are "gone in 60 seconds"...
However - I agree - it is much better to have HISS then not to have it... (at least for the old fashion crooks...)
