How much should I offer?

i paid 4200 for mine last year through a private party. its a 2006 3800 miles bone stock. luckily, i was the first person to call the seller.
offer 4.5 otd and justify it. say its an 06, tires should be replaced due to age. exhaust isnt to your taste. dealer B has another bike youre interested in. basically give them reasons why you wont pay "their" price. you are more interested in "your" price.
and of course try and wheel and deal for a free helmet, gloves, oil change, etc. if they refuse, take the freebies off the table and you technically dont lose anything

even though i try to steer people away from doing bussiness with dealers. id offer 4 at the very most, take a friend along that knows bikes too, tell em to look it over for you. dealers are always over priced as stated. every single dealer and bike shop sales people ive delt with (as far as selling a bike) have always put making money obove being honest and checking the bike out before its sold....especially dealers.. biggest thieves. thats why i learned to work on my own ride and never do bussiness with them.
what i do is watch patiently for a steal to pop up on craigslist and go check it out. thats how you can find really good deals, if you know what to look for when buying a bike. i see low mileage f4i's online all day long for around three grand...could save you fifteen hundred - two grand. just my own experiance

I got Ororo with 2.5kish miles for 4.5k. The dealer is high, above kbb value (depending on your location). Ask him to justify the the price. And don't let him tell you mods justify it. If it has a slip on exhaust, reply it'll need a power commander + dyno tune to do anything besides rob power and make noise. If the tires aren't brand new, that's $300 out of pocket... etc etc.

Agree that the dealer is too high. 4.5k is not too low.
As everyone else says there are changes that you are going to make/have to do to bike. What's the worst he's going to say, no? Normally their idea is that someone's going to buy it and they'll get their price.
They low ball the trade in and get high book on selling.

It will come down to the rider, not the bike
