Do yourself a favor and buy some real chain lube. The directions are on the can. normally.. clean it ride it get the chain warm them apply it.

Like Rojer said above, buy a dedicated lubricant. WD-40 (WD stands for Water Displacement) does have lubricative properties, and is commonly used as a penetrant/degreaser/cleaner, but it's not to be used as a heavy duty lubricant. Do a "motorcycle chain" video search on the net for chain maintenace tutorials. Dupont Teflon Multi-use is really good, cheap ($5) & available at Lowes: LINK.

I use Tri-Flow Superior Lubricant with Teflon. Its cheap and thats what one of the local shops recommends. Plus, it's kind of a cleaner/lubricant all in one. It isnt a degreaser, but it helps move dirt and dust out from in between the links and is suppose to help keep dirt from getting back in.
EDIT: also is a rust/corrosion inhibitor. |
