How was it lowered?

So I just got an 06 4fi this weekend and I'm loving it. (it's my first big kid bike. Switched from a 350) Anyway the girl I bought it from said the back was lowered "a couple inches" but someone did it for her and she doesn't know how it was done. "something about the spring, maybe?" How can I tell how much it's been lowered and how it was lowered? The previous owner was more than a foot shorter than me. BTW I've been lurking for a couple weeks and this is one of the best groups I've ever seen in a forum.

Stock pre-load is the 4th notch from the bottom. If that's where it is, then look at the link the shock mounts to and see if it's been replaced.

How do I tell if it's been replaced?

I've got a 32 inch inseam and I stand over the seat with about six inches of clearance between the seat and my... Self.

Well, you look up online what a stock link looks like and compare it to what you have.

Or take a picture and post it up for one of the many F4i owners to look at.

All right. I've got that sorted. Looks like the stock linkage only has one hole in the bottom where mine has two. Switching to the other hole looks like it'll raise the back up. Dunno if it'll be the stock hight but I'll try it anyway.

Be careful when you disconnect the shock from the link. It's what's holding the rear of the bike up.

Most people using a lowering link in the rear and just change fork tube height for the front.

How do I tell if they did that? Sorry, I'm a total noob here.

The fork tubes will be sticking up past the clip-ons.

So their supposed to be flush? This is getting more and more amusing. Best part is, even with it lowered its still a blast to ride.
