I'm kind of getting the urge to do some work on my bike. I was thinking about getting a new bike, but performance and reliability-wise my F4i is perfect.

How hard would it be to swap fairings from these bikes:

2007-2012 600RR
2006-2007 1000RR
2012-2014 1000RR
Ducati 848/1098/1198 "I really love this front fairing"

All of these bikes are beautiful but I've never tried to swap fairings from a different bike. Are there body shops that can do these conversions for you?

Anything can be made to fit anything with enough modification. How much time, money, and effort are you willing to put into it. Some kits go on easier than others.

I would guess that the cost of paying a shop to do it would be more than getting the other bike.

What do you mean "kits"? Are there premade kits for doing things like this?

Not that I know of.

I was referring to fairing kits.

Body kits, like ones from eBay for a 600rr or something. If you want to start mix-match fairings like the white Kawi with a 1098 top fairing (and a newer zx6 tail....I think) requires a lot of fabrication to make everything fit together nicely.

How good are you with fiberglass? Also, you'll need to be able to fabricate mounts, and be able to adapt the things that come along with new fairings (like headlights) and make mounts for that stuff.


To do correctly, it's going to be a lot of trial-and-error, which means time and money (materials, and other hard parts).

I'd love to see it though.

If it had been done and people had the answers, you'd be able to find them just searching. Also there would be a LOT more of them out there. There are basically none, for a good reason. You don't swap them, you rebuild them and the bike to make the stuff work. Its fabrication plain and simple.

I've seen a few examples but I can't find much info on the fabrication process. I wish I could find a step by step walk through of someone's project.

I'm currently changing my 04 f4i to 06rr and no its not easy, it takes lots of patience and commitment, there a very nice thread in 600f thread(dennis is the creator) its been a long process for this guy to change his 90 hurricane to 03 rr but it looks stunning start there and u can learn something man, he has a lot of step by step info on things that very well could help you

There are a lot of nice fairing kits in multiple color combos for F4's if you look for them. You can find a lot of them online.

I did a rear fairing, seats, swingarm, and front fender swap from an 05-06 600rr. The front fender needed only one new hole drilled in each side to line up correctly and slides right on. I used three matched head stainless button heads from ace hardware and it looks good too. The tail was a much, much harder as i used my original subframe for mounting. All electronics moved in under the rider seat in a neat mounted fashion ( it just sounds easy ), fabricate out of your choice of metals all new mount tabs/or threaded inserts into the frame to mount the tail fairing to after your sure you have the proper mount angle so she doesnt get laughed at and look silly. Then its on to the large rear brace that holds the passenger seat, and seat lock and incidently anyone you would like to ride back there. This worried me enough that i used 1/4" steel bar which made it even harder on myself labor wise but im satisfied its safe.This was the hardest problem for me. After those things it was pretty much downhill, another cross bar at the rear of the subframe for the rear passenger seat mount to slide into, an undertail that came with a key hole pre drilled, integrated signals/tail light, and a carbon rear plate mount. The swingarm for all intents and purposes does just bolt on with a few twists but there are many how to's on that one. Good luck
