How do you flush brake fluid?

I dont think my brake fluid been flushed lately, it looks like Whisky.. Anyways i dont understand how to flush the system. Im going to get a one mans brake and clutch bleeding kit. However where do i attach the hose to? and what do i have to unscrew.

"You need to place a spanner 8mm. over the bleed nipple first and seat it over the hex part of the nipple then attach the rubber bleeding hose.

Open the bleeder nipple about ½ turn."

This is the part i dont understand. When i take off the rubber cap i can clearly see where the hose can be attached, however their is a bolt right underneith the area where the hose is being attached to. Than how do i unscrew that little bolt to open up the bleeder nipple and bleed the system.

Try this one from Juliet. Even has pictures

Oh, you did use that one. The pic right above that section shows the spanner (wrench) on the nipple. Turning the spanner opens and closes the nipple

I use a mity vac, works GREAT! you just hook the vac up to the brake nipple, pump it a few times to store vacum, open the nipple and it all does itself, no lever touching involved.....

just close the nipple as the res gets low.... I flush my brakes every oil change and takes me about 20 minutes to do fronts and rear... thats taking my time...

Got the mity-vac at harbor frieght for 30 bucks too

is it hard to do? im kinda nervous about changing the brake fluid. But than again i dont want to spend 100 dollars to do so by a mechanic. Anyways so the spanner and the tube can both fit at the same time?

So if you just hook up the vac and once it sucks out all the brake fluid you dont have to bleed your brakes as long as you dont let the brake fluid run dry?

That is what bleeding your brakes is. It's the same concept as doing it other ways. Only difference is that instead of letting the fluid flow up under power of gravity, it flows out under power of vacuum. Here's a link to the Mity Vac:

oooh alright so its not that difficult. But for people who dont have a vac to flush out the fluid you can just open the brake fluid reservoir, open the nipple and pump the brakes untill the fluid gets low than fill it up again, pump the brakes untill the fluid comes out clear? Its not needed to open and close the nipple each time you pump the brake until you are bleeding it out?

only pull the lever as it's open, close then let it return back... dont let it return to normal position w/ nipple open, it will suck in air... air is no good

The mity-vac basically just suck fluid thru, as long as it doesn't suck any air in, it's all good. just make sure the brake fluid you are using has settled, you'd be amazed all the little air bubbles in the brake fluid adds up

Im going to use a sythentic dot 4 brake fluid. I have a regular dot 4 fluid in the garage but its about 8 years old. Does it matter if its sythentic? and okay i think im beginning to get it. There are just so many different methods.
