You don't have to lay on the tank unless you want to, and that would only be when you wanna tuck down.
And if you get a Double Bubble windshield, that'll help too so you wouldn't have to tuck down as low & won't have to "lay on the tank" as much
But yeah, it's a pretty comfortable bike

Im a fat **** too. I am 5'9" 250 and still can get my wheel up not even trying. I love the look of the RR, but the riding position was not one that I felt comfortable on. LIke stated above, these bikes sit more upright than most people think. This is my first sportbile and I came from riding dirt bikes and 2 dual sports. It was a very easy transition for myself. Good luck. Do not limit yourself to one brand or style. Go out to dealerships and sit on a few to see what you like.
