My brother just picked up and 01 F4i that was in need of work, and I've got a question about the cooling fan. Is the cooling fan supposed to be on as soon as you turn the key before you even start it? Seems odd to me.

If it's not supposed to be this way, what could be the possible problems and possible solutions?

nope. seems like the person that owned the bike before you hardwired the cooling fan. just take off the clutch side fairing and see if the fan wire is connected to the fan switch.

 

yep Rennen is right. Its probably hardwired but it could also be a faulty switch which is a heat sensor in the radiator.
