Default HELP PLEASE

I went outside to start my bike, did so and after the high idle came down (normally when the temp readout turns on to 100 or so) nothing happened.

Basically My temp readout says nothing but the two dahes(--) !!!!!

Anyway, I took it for a ride and got it good and warmed up (I know) and still nothing only --. So my quesion is do you have any idea what it could be? A sensor?

Yeah, my guess would be the sensor. I believe, but not 100% sure, that it's on the left hand side of the radiator. Check the connections for it too, might have just come loose.

Does this temp sensor send the signal to the guage or the ECU? I work on cars for a living and obviously these are two different worlds, but on a car you will generally find one sensor for the guage and and one for the computer to tell it how to adjust the fuel mixture based on the coolant temp. Often times the temp sensor for the guage is mounted in the radiator or near the thermostat neck, while the ECT for the computer is in the head.

Again I may be talking out my *** for a motorcycle, but this is how it works on a car. I am trying to get in to the Honda site to check the shop manual and I am having trouble.

Default RE: HELP PLEASE

The sensor that sends the temp to your gauges is right under the thermostat - you'll need to remove the tank, airbox, and throttle body to get to it. If you have a multi-tester, you can probably check it for its resistance rating, its listed in the clymer manual. And yes, you have the right one picked on the parts site.
