Help engine noise

Hey guys I need help asap I've got an 02 cbr600 f4i, it's got this horrible noise coming from it right at 5000 rpm and higher it sounds like metal rattling together, under 5k rpm no noise at all bike runs awesome tons of power no idle or starting issues, makes the noise in every gear including N at 5k rpm and higher please help and shoot me some thoughts on what it could be

Metallic rattling at that rpm range, regardless of gearing, is likely to be the CCT...

Ok I appreciate it, I will post again tomorrow after I change the cct if the noise has been fixed or not, and when I change the cct can I just pull out the OEM and put in the new one or do I need to tear apart much more and make sure the pistons are at tdc

I've not read of anyone worrying too much about that. I think as long as you are careful when pulling the old and slotting in the new ( i.e. don't move the bike at all), you should be fine.

There is a sticky about how to do at the top of the page here...

I would agree 5k rattling would likely be cct, scared the hell out of me when I first heard the noise on mine. The day after I bought the bike. Sounded like something in the top end ready to fly apart lol

Replaced the OEM with a manual one, I didn't worry about tdc or anything. Some say its a must others say its not a real issue.
I would agree that you want to make sure the motor doesn't turn while your changing it out though. Less chance of jumping a tooth.

Mine was done about 8k kms ago and I haven't had any issues
Its definitely a fun job though , need some serious patients. Tiny tiny hands wouldn't be a bad thing either.

*edit*
That would be over 20k kms ago not 8. After 8k I adjusted it slightly.
haven't touched it since.
