Headlight recommendations?

I need to replace the Headlights on my bike because the previous owner had a HID System in it and the boxes burned up. Should I go with another HID set up(I was thinking like ES300 for a nice yellow), or should I just go to stock. Also if anyone knows a good place to get them. Thanks

Im not a huge fan of the stock lights, personally. I test drove a stock '01 f4i and I could hardly see a thing, the bike I bought has bright white lights (havent looked into them much, they are whatever the original owner installed) and they are AWESOME. Hands down, I say do not go stock, though. They are pitiful imho. A cool mod I like a lot is retrofitting r6 projectors into our stock headlight housing. I cant remember where I found it but it is something I will be doing in the future just to be unique! Just another alternative for lighting issues.

edit:
I was mistaken, I found the r6 retrofit and it was in an rr, it shoould be possible in the f4i, to, I would think.

this guy put in HID's, it looks sweet, if that guy is still around he maybe could help you
also that has got to be one of the nicest looking f4i's around.

www.ddmtuning.com have been great to me.

If you want the depp yellow lights you want to look around the 3000K range.

I am also looking to upgrade the lighting on my 06 f4i. Can I just buy a better quality brighter light bulb and just put it in or is there wiring that needs to be done?

Halogen you can just plug in, With a 300% brighter HID for the same price, you have to wire in a plug and play ballast (An extra 3 plugs = 10mins extra work)

Difference between ddmtuning's $50 8000K HID (Not fully heated up yet) and a $60 Sylvania "Pure White" Halogen:

HID's fully heated up

so the bottom pic is of halogen bulbs that just plug in? if so thats what im looking for

leftmouse 10-16-2012 03:02 PM

So I think I will go with these
HID Kits, BMW Aftermarket Bumpers & Lighting, DEPO - DDM Tuning
at 3000k but what bulb type should I get, (not sure what the bulb type does)? Also do you really need high beams with HIDs?

The bottom pic is the HID's (Its an extra 20-30mins on the install)
I would highly recommend getting them.

The clutch side of the pic below is the top of the line Halogen, compared to a 1/2 powered HID (Gets way brighter after about 30 secs) on the brake side

You will want the H7's and if your going to do one side you might as well do both. Also just get the 35W's as the 55W can have wiring problems due to the high inrush current on start-up.

Here is an awesome write-up on how to do the install from a fellow member

So the High beams are a different set of bulbs or are they the same ones with a different setting?

Hi ans Lo are the same bulb (H7)with just a different reflector in your headlight housing.

leftmouse 10-17-2012 12:39 PM

So one bulb for lo beam has its reflector adjusted to a certain level and the other bulb on the other side is for hi beam and has its reflector pointed higher up? Does the switch on the bike for high beam just turn on the other side(high beam side) when you switch it?

Its a different reflector but same thing you mentioned.
Your Lo beam is on at all time, When you hit your Hi beam switch the other headlight on so that both headlights are on.

leftmouse 10-17-2012 01:50 PM

Is there a specific side that has the high beam reflector on the f4i?

DDM usually takes 3 weeks for delivery, so just remember that when waiting.

leftmouse 10-17-2012 05:22 PM

ya, luckily I have one of my lights working, so I can ride it legally

chute 10-18-2012 02:21 AM

I did DDM aswell, bought 6000k and i love them, I then bought projectors to do the install and they had h4 bulbs at 4300k, I prefer the 4300k. It's a yellowish white almost pure white and i stick around there 3k is to low in my opinion.

Ahks 10-18-2012 07:10 AM

DDM kit here as well. Went with 5k or 6k and they still have a bit more blue than I want.

You absolutely have to read https://home.comcast.net/~nstama/hidinstall.html
The base of the bulb has to be modified a little...

AND DON'T TOUCH THE GLASS ON THE HID BULB!
You will kill it... :)

I don't know I really like the yellow look and its said to be the most penetrating in all weather.

bamato 10-18-2012 03:14 PM

I went 3k on my 89 rx7 and loved it. Do what suits your taste!
