Having trouble removing the rear brake pedal
 

Hey guys I low-sided my bike the other week and am in the process of repairing the damage. One of the last things to fix is my rear brake pedal, which got bent. I got the new pedal today, and when I went out to install it, I couldn't get the old one off.

The service manual merely states to remove the joint pin, and the springs, and viola. Well I don't see any way to remove the joint pin, and I don't know if it's because something is bent or because I'm just stupid. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here are some pics. (BTW the joint pin is that gold pin with the square end.)

Detach the brake light spring and remove bolt going to the master
Then use a flathead to remove the "C" clip (top left of the last picture) and it should slide right off the rear set bracket.
Done digity.

i forgot you dont even need to loosen that master bolt, it looks like you've already pulled out the cotter pin. That piece of linkage should slide right off with the pedal. This saves you from having to re-adjust your pedal angle.

The problem isn't taking off the linkage, it's detaching the pedal itself. After pulling out the cotter pin, the service manual just says to take out the joint pin (gold pin). But there is no room to do so. I'm not sure what to do :(

I have this same dilemma. My fix was to adapt and deal with it. Now, whenever I just rest my foot on the brake, I get the perfect amount of force to settle the rear end.

take a look at the last picture you posted in the OP...
you need to pull up the pedal about 1/2 inch to allow the gold pin to drop out, but the master wont let you......
.....SO remove snap ring 1st, then remove the 2 bolts to separate the master from the rearset bracket and you can now easily pull out the gold pin. :icon_cake:

Thanks for this, I just installed the new pedal. What the service manual leaves out is that you need to also take out the 2 bolts that separate the master from the rearset in order to take out the gold pin (as you said).
