Hi, I wanted to know what they do for on-cycle test in Calif. If any of you have taken it recently, please post pointers! I'll be taking it soon w/new F4i!

You have to drive in a straight line between two lines about 14" apart and 30 ft long, around an approximately 12' diameter circle twice (between the lines), and back down between the lines. Then you have to weave around some dots about 8 feet apart and around the circle again twice, and then back through the weave. I just went down and prcticed today, and it's freaking rediculously difficult on a sportbike. Good luck.

Hey, thanks! I better get to my practice too. Hope nearby DMV has those circles and lines in there lot. Don't they also ask some questions about motorcycle mechanisms and maybe a stupid safety rules?

You have to take a short written exam to get the permit, then the driving test to get the licence. Here is a link to the DMV motorcyle suppliment.

practice makes perfect...i've been riding for about a month now...(on the street)..but after i got use to the handling and power of the bike..u-turns, dough-nuts,...it gets easier and easier..
so practice, respect ur bike's power, and always gear up

Yeah, just practicing yesterday, it was way easier than when I tried it a week ago. Ride the clutch and throttle, and cover the front brake, but be careful, that front brake can cause you to go over pretty quick if grabbed too hard with the steering at full lock.

Guys, thanks a million for the great tips!!
I better postpone my test for a week and practice.
I scheduled it about 15 hours after I get my new F4i!

Yeah it must suck since you can't ride after dark or on freeways with a permit. But I'll be riding at night. That's the only time I got!

Yeah, not sure where you're at, but in Sacramento it's too dang hot to ride in the daytime!
