going down one tooth in the front???????????
i was talking to a buddy today asking him what he thought about how much a difference a power commander made and he is a track instructor, he agreed that its really hard to tell the difference between a PCIII and no PCIII. he said the biggest increases in power i would get is going down one tooth in the front. what would i have to do to make this mod i have never done gearing before how much more power would i get out of the bike. also can i use the stock chain?

RE: going down one tooth in the front???????????
The sprocket swap is one of the easiest cheapest most effective ways to get some more pep out of the bike. i did a write up a while ago.. step by step how to. here is the link. pretty informative if i do say so myself.

And also as far as power gains in hp or torgue you wont see any what gearing does is moves you into the powerband of the bike soon. more accel but less top end.

RE: going down one tooth in the front???????????
should i get a new chain i know i can use the factory one and adjust the tension but is a brand new sprocket in the front going to wear down quicker with a chain that has 8200 miles on it. my friend that just got front and rear sprockets on his f4 said that going down one tooth in the front would wear the transmission and be harder on the bike. what do u guys think??? And how much is my speedo going to be off with a 15 tooth sprocket in the front????

i thought going down a tooth messed with the speedo im curious too about it. I heard it does brg the accel alittle higher though but the top end is going to be a little less

You can use the stock chain but it isn't recommended. especially if you have 8200 on it already. i would say replace the hole shebang, that way they all are on the same wear schedule.
a smaller sprocket will run through the RPMs quicker and you will have to shift more, but only 1 tooth down won't make such a difference that your engine will blow up. like someone said before on here, everytime you start your bike, or drive it for that matter you are wearing on the engine. this is a very common mod, and people wouldn't do it if it killed the bikes. as for the speedo, yes it will be off. the bikes come from the factory with about a 4-6 percent variance in actual speed to reported speed. the sprocket change will most likely put you at a little over 10%. meaning if your speedo is showing 50, you are truly going about 45. this can all be remedied with a speedohealer, available from most bike shops, a littl over $100. sad to say that your $30 mod just turned into over $200 if your going to do everything i said. |

This information is everyone on this forum, but... Here is a great site for calculating everything gearing... http://gearingcommander.com/
