I regularly cruise around 4500-5k. But when you get in that habit its hard to break when you want to do a spirited ride. You have to resist the tendency to short shift.

So it should be ok to ride at about 4,000-5,000 rpms?
That's only a third of redline, don't worry about it. My S2000 is at 4000 rpm at 70 MPH.

You're damned right it's OK to ride at 5k rpms!! Well that is until your cam chain tensioner starts going bad and the chain rattling begins at 5,000! Sorry, that's another thread!!

I normally ride around at 6 or 7k. Just under the power band in case I need it! But like someone else said, 5k is rather low (compared to the red line number on our bikes) so don't be afraid to ride a little higher on the tach.

you really can ride the **** out of this bike with no damage, it's not like a car it's made to have high rpms. you probably do more damage to this kind of bike if you drive it too easy.so have fun. just be careful and don't be a fool you will be fine.

We have 6 gears?

I don't think my friend even leaves 4th gear...Lets be honest, we didn't buy our bikes JUST to save gas. Might as well ride it hard and still have good gas mileage.

You cant even feel the bikes power at 5k rpm. Like around 8-9k, you feel a good pull. 12 thousand is where it gets fun.
I dont know about you guys, but on my bike i have to kick mad hard to go from 1st to 2nd if im doing over 10k or i go into neutral.

Alekinci: I believe the owner's manual calls for a "firm shift".
So you guys stay higher in the rev range????

I notice cooler temps lower in the revs, anyone have any comments on gas mileage, maintenance, etc? I'd imagine that the oil would break down faster.

If I ride at 7000RPM's with my exhaust, it is litterally screaming at me. From 7000-9000 RPM's is the loudest part of the RPM range for my bike.

Kind of ear peircing.

I know that Honda put RECOMMENDED shifting speeds in the Owners' Manual, however I'm not sure if there's a maximum speed listed.
