Default Gearbox problem

Set off for work this morning. No problems until tried to change up to 3rd. Nothing there. Back down to 2nd ok. Again pedal wouldn't select 3rd. Everything was OK day before. Anyone have any idea what it could be?

could be shift forks bent, or shift drum is worn. only way to check is to remove the clutch, drop the oil pan, and remove the forks and drum.

Thanks for that. Looks like a strip whatever it is. Just got her back on the road so I'm not a happy bunny.

The gearboxes are pretty bullet proof, most problems are worn out gear selector mechanisms, they tend to get covered in crud, the rubber boots split letting moisture into the ball joints which then wear. That’s where I would focus my attention, also just check what oil has been used.

Thanks Gunk. Just been serviced with good oil and filter. Shes 15 years old and the 'box has been great. I'll follow your advice and start with the selector. No unusual noise or difficulty selecting 1st and 2nd. Hoping it's something inexpensive.
