how long before gas starts to break down if your bike is stored in a closed garage. also, does anybody that rides every other week or so use stabil to keep thier gas fresh[sm=icon_cheers.gif]

ive heard if its stored over 60 days that you should use stabilizer but of course i have nothing ot back this up

why dont you just run it every couple weeks, turn it on and get the fluids moving...

Man your funny, I had my thing in storage for like 7 months on the same oil and gas. once every month i come out and start it up for 15 minutes. Still running on the same oil after 8 month and the bike runs strong.

Cbarson is right, if that bike is in your garage why dont you just start it up once a week.

Oh stabilizer are good for winter time. Never used it on the bike though, this winter i will. Also, I recommand using LUcas oil stabilizer. Bike runs a bit cooler and the gears feels right every time

I've heard that doing this can be bad. As the motor heats and cools, it sucks in moisture. That moisture finds it way into the crankcase and mixes with your oil and the crap that is in there to cause acids and then of course corrosion. Everytime this cycle happens, more and more water will accumulate and therefore more and more acids and such. Some believe that 20 minutes at operating temperature is enough to keep the moisture in the oil to a minimum. I've also heard that synthetic oils make this situation even worse, they are good at engine protection when running, but not corrosion protection when storing.
