fumes from fuel overflow hose?

Probably a noob question...

As of right now I am doing a complete coolant flush on my 01 F4i and while waiting for her fan to turn on I noticed fumes exiting from what seems to be the fuel overflow hose that routes to the bottom of the bike. is this normal?

also, with distilled water in the rad... after turning her off to cool down I hear what sounds like bubbles moving about in the water pump area.

any input is greatly appreciated!

As the engine heats up, so too do the vapors in the fuel tank which then expand and have to be vented somewhere. So, to answer your question; it's normal to smell vapors coming from the fuel tank vent tube as the engine is warming up at idle. On California bikes these vented vapors go through the charcoal canister where they are trapped. When the right engine operating parameters are met, the ECU activates the charcoal canister purge solenoid which draws fresh air into the canister and uses it to carry the fuel vapors into the engine intake. So, if yours is a California bike then there's probably a problem somewhere in your evaporative emissions system. If this is the case, it's not something I'd really worry about as it won't have any effect on engine performance or longevity.
