full oil change with case cover replacement?
Case cover wore through at track day lowside... aftermarket's too expensive at like $200!
Silly question that might be asked before but I couldnt find in search:
I have to change the case cover, but will I need to do a full oil change with it or will topping off work after draining whats in the crank case? My oil's around 80 miles old! (right before track day)

just had my crankcase cover powdercoated and yes, you'll have to do a full oil fill....you should drain the oil before trying to remove the crank cover....at least, that's what is recommended in the service manual.....i wouldn't go through all the work and not change the oil...plus...like halik said...you don't want shavings in there....buy a filter for a few bucks, a jug of oil and switch out...shouldn't cost you more than $20 or so....

fo shizzle. aluminum shavings = BADDDD. can't pick that **** up with a magnet drain plug and you can kiss your bearings goodbye. full oil change.
related question. has anyone ever used one of the adhesive carbon fiber covers and rashed that up?? i'm curious as to how they hold out because it seems a lot easier to just replace that rather than swap out engine/stator cover. too many bolts lol. it couldn't be too expensive to make your own if you've got a cheap source of epoxy resign and carbon fiber cloth.
