Fuel tank removal questions.

Hi all,
I was having a really hard time draining my fuel tank and removing it. After 30 mins of sucking on a hose trying to get the 1/5 of a gallon I still have left in the tank with no success, I decided to just remove the hose with the banjo bolt and the other hose with the fuel and take it off. I removed the banjo bolt hose just fine, not too much fuel came out of that one. When I remove the hose that goes from tank to throttle body/fuel rail, it started pouring fuel everywhere. Luckily I had a hose and gas container there to start draining the fuel in there.
However, to drain all the fuel using that line, I had to lower the tank back to where it's lying down on the bike, and it's just really hard to do.
Will this hose always leak fuel? Is there an easier way to remove the fuel tank? What's the best way to drain the tank and remove it? Is it possible to remove the tank without having to 100% drain it.

On the 900 you can just turn the fuel tap to the off position.

Pinch the line with a locking pliers or plug the hose with a bolt.

I've taken my tank off many times with it almost full with little loss of gas.
