Default Fuel tank question on F4i

I have a 2001 F4i 600 and i have yet to receive my manual i ordered. I was wondering how the reserve gets kicked on with this bike and how do you fill the reserve? I know on my older bikes i just flipped it over to reserve to run the reserve tank and to fill it i just kept in reserve when i filled my tank up.

thanks for the help!!

The reserve light just turns on as a reminder to fill up whenever you're low. No need to flip any switch. It should have 4 bars, and I assume each bar represents a quarter of the reserve. So when 1 bar blinks, you should have about 75% of the reserve left. 2 = 50% etc. When all bars are blinking, you better be within walking distance to a gas station. Another note, the reserve light won't turn off if you fill up less than .92 gallons and the bike has to be running for 90 seconds after the fill up. It's in 21-2 of the manual so you know where to look when you get it.

Oh - and use your odometer for the first few fillup's so that you can learn to trust your reserve lights because they are OFTEN not accurate.

I used to head for a gas station at 160 miles, but now I head for one at about 180. My reserve comes on somewhere in the 160 range.

The only way to semi-accurately determine your miles per tank is to fill the tank up completely then run it until you're out of gas. That would tell you the number of miles you can go.

Is that what you did Seaford? Or did you estimate your range?

I wasn't holding out as fact that 180 is how far you can go on a tank. I was just cautioning him not to rely on the reserve, and supporting it with what my method is, which is to head to a gas station around 180. I figure at 180 miles you are beginnnig to get pretty low if you drive it moderately, and are about dead empty if you rag it down to 40mpg...

There's no switch for a reserve tank. The lights will come on and then they will blink. As they blink, they will slowly move down from 4 bars to 3 bars, and then to 2 bars, and etc...

I get 160mi before I go to a gas station to fill up.
