Fuel Tank Compatibility 2006-2001

Hey guys, quick question:

I'm looking for a new fuel tank for my 01 F4i. A guy on Ebay is selling an 06 F4i tank for a decent price. Are the two compatible?

The Ebay guy says so, and on the Honda OEM site (and bikebandit) the tanks are listed as Fuel Tank '01-'06, but the part numbers are slightly different. Is that just a paint thing, or is there some more substantial difference that would cause a problem if I tried to slap this on my bike?

Thanks!

according to the parts list, 01-06 are the same. however, there is a type 1, and type 2 for those years. i don't know the difference between the types, but they may interchange. may just be an extra vapor fitting for cali emissions or something like that.

That's what I saw too, demon.

I'm always just a little wary buying off EBay. The seller has been good about communicating, but I don't want to throw down a couple hundred dollars and then get stuck with a tank that doesn't fit, so I'm trying to be extra sure before I bid :)

worst case is that you have an f4i tank that you can sell, but it will most likely fit just fine.

Good point, demon.

The seller said he called Honda and confirmed the extra stuff at the end is just paint and decals. He even dropped the price a bit since no one else had bid. $275 shipped for a like-new tank from an 06, including the fuel pump, gas cap, etc is pretty good.

great price.

new tank $717
new fp assy $463
new cap $150

all for $275...

Tanks are the same. Some of the hardware on the bottom near the seat is different, since the seats are different between the two F4i styles. But those are insignificant parts that you can easily replace for cheap. Go for it.

Aken:

Which parts are different? The only hardware I can think of down there are the two bolts that attack the back of the tank to the frame, and the clip that holds the seat down. Can I just replace what the tank comes with with my bolts and clip and be OK?

Yes that's what I'm talking about, and yes using your stock hardware should be perfect.
