Front vs Rear Tread Life?

Does the front typically last longer than the rear? Just picked up a new set of Pilot Roads. My front tire is pretty bad but the rear has a few k left (40% or so).

It looks like the previous owner put on a new rear but left the front. Now with a new set I dont know whether to change em both or just the front and get some more mileage on the rear.

I usually go thru 2 rears to one front, roughly lol.

The rear wheel is doing all of the work. Everytime you engine break or accelerate you are going to eat up some of the back tire. Since the front tire has no power going to it it just rolls and therefor doesn't wear as fast.

I'd change them both. You'll get a better deal buying them as a pair compared to 1 now and 1 later. And I always like to have matched tires. So unless you are planning on getting more sets of PR's then I'd definitely change both out.

^ +1 change em both, then youll be at a fresh start, and you can keep the rear as a spare (just incase there is a nail/screw out there with your name on it) :D

Why change a tire that isen't worn out? Replace each tire as nessacary. The bike isen't going to do anything better with 2 new tires vs just replacing the one worn one. Hell I've even run different tires before without ill effects [pilot sport front, power rear, then power 2ct front with pilot rear, right now its a pilot pure front and power 2ct rear]

Yeah I wouldn't waste a tire with tread on it. I replace my tires as needed; maybe I'll buy them as a set to save some cash, but I'm not wasting that cash by throwing away a good tire.

What wasted cash? He just bought the bike with a bald front tire and a rear tire with maybe a month left. Pick some tires that fit your riding style and swap them both out.

He has a new set already ;)
