I just bought a 2002 f4i. In the section of the left and right farings, below the handlebars, where you can see a section of the frame, are 2 holes, on one each side, drilled into the frame. Are these previous mounts for frame sliders?

 

no, the holes for the frame sliders are located on the engine mount in the frame...look at my signature for a pic

 

Sounds like some chucklehead may have "modified" your frame. There shoudn't be any holes on those frame spars.

Can you get some pics so we can be sure?

It almost sounds like someone didn't want to cut their plastics so they drilled the frame.[:@]
