Default Frame Slider Lengths?

I'm looking to get a set of frame sliders for my newly purchased 2001 cbr600f4i and was wondering what the best length is. Do the extended sliders (4-5 inches) really offer more protection than the standard length ones? Anyone ever go with a pair of longer sliders? Do they look out of place? Thanks for your input.

I'm wondering what the length of my frame sliders are. The one on my bro's bike that he just purchased doesn't look like they'd save too much of the frame, whereas the ones I have definitely look like they would be very useful if the bike were ever to go down. Both bikes are now in storage so I can't take pics of the differences.

In addition to getting the "right" length, I'd like to hear brand recommendations - especially from people who have actually dropped their bike with the sliders on.

I'd hate to sweat cutting my fairings and still end up with damage because I didn't get the right size/brand!

I think you guys have a misconception about frame sliders.

As the name implies, they protect the frame...not the fairings. The fact that they have helped save the fairings from damage in a drop is a plus.....but NOT guaranteed!

Having said that, the shorter the length the better in regards to protecting the frame. You don't need much length to have the frame slide in a higher speed crash. Its basic physics here....the longer the length, the longer you have a moment arm that can shear off and do even more damage in a higher speed crash.

Personally, I think those longer sliders that the stunters use look really stupid.

Looks like you answered your own question...longer is better.

I've heard that the longer sliders can actually break the engine mounts in a crash.

That's going to be a lot more expensive to fix then fairings.

Just get the standard 3" (I think)

Longer the slider the more leverage there is on the slider and bolt. Often times causing the slider or bolt to bend, break or strip the head.

Yeah...I can see how a longer slider would do that. Guess I'm better off not risking having the slider snap off and just go with the standard length. Hopefully, I wont get much use out of them (knock on wood). Thanks again for all your input.
