Foot gear shifter question
While driving my bike yesterday, I went to shift and noticed that the shifter was hanging down and the linkage was not connected to the foot shifter.
So I need to know if the linkage to the ball joint going into the foot shifter is missing something to keep it in place and not fall out, or if it is pressed into the foot shifter and I need to order a new shifter? |
There should be a keeper nut on each of the shaft ends that you tighten against the
ball joints, to prevent it doing what it did. My guess is they weren't secured and the whole thing vibrated loose. If you take the rod to a hardware store, you should be able to get new ones if they were lost. Ern |
Thanks for the help. I think we are talking about two different sections of the linkage though.
I wasn't talking about where the rod goes into the ball joint and can be adjusted with the nuts, but where the ball joint seats into the foot shifter itself in the back close the the chain side. the rod is connected to the ball joint, but the ball joint is out of the socket on the shifter and there is nothing keeping it in place. Thanks again for helping! |

Hmmm servicehonda.com says it's all one part (#3 is just the rubber dust cover). But your pic looks like an aftermarket piece of linkage anyways. That black sleeve in the center of the pic should be square not round.

....as a matter of fact, this shift lever on ebay looks to be identical to yours. And i would not buy it! :icon_emm:

So you are saying, that if I buy an OEM lever, that it will have the ball already attached to the lever, and I would just have to attach the linkage to the ball and tighten the nut?
Thanks for the help! |
That is correct FL03CBRF4i. I don't care for the OEM shift lever myself. I seem to always have problems w/ the rubber spinning and it always leaves black marks on my shoe.
