Default FMF exhaust from an R6?

My buddy gave me an almost new FMF Blue Titanium pipe off his R6. My question is, do you guys think the mufflers are designed specifically for each brand of 600cc bike, or are they all pretty much the same muffler with different model specific midpipes? I was thinking about getting a muffler shop to TIG the FMF can on my stock midpipe. Think it's worth it? All I would be paying for is to have it welded, which I could do myself if I only had a TIG welder.... Also, the inlet to the muffler is slightly smaller than the midpipe diameter, so should I reduce the pipe size slightly where it enters the muffler, or should I just fabricate a whole new midpipe? Is this a stupid idea? Just so you guys know, I fabricate my own **** all the time, I'm just new to the bike world. I'm not some clueless kid just trying to save a buck. Thank you. Cheers.

The muffler cans are all the same pretty much so if you could fabricate it go for it. You should see my Honda 400ex I put my Micron can on the quad just because it was collecting dust, sounds good too.
