First time valve inspections @ 21k miles
1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, doing some much needed maintenance on my 04 F4i and finished my valve inspecitons. Looks like I need a lot to adjust. Are these numbers normal for a relatively low mileage or am I not using my shim tool correctly? I am sliding them in the correct valves per the manual and I aim for a light resistance when pulling out but I can also go one or two hundreths of mm and still fit with a little more resistance. Let me know if these numbers are right. Thanks.

Tight exhaust, very typical.
Next step is to find out what size shim is in each one so you can go smaller to loosen them up a little. |
Yep that's my plan once I get a shim kit. I noticed that my in and ex markings on the cam gears were not completely aligned with the cylinder head where if the ex is lined up perfectly the in is a tad higher. Is that an issue or as long as they are in the ball park?

If there's any doubt, check them again. You want the heel of the cam lobe lined up with the valve for the bes reading. Any place much off the heel runs a risk of being on the ramp of the lobe. If you've ever run into a cam with a lot or duration, it starts reducing clearance right away.

Also, what are the diameter size shims for an '04 f4i? Cant seem to find info on that anywhere.
