First time at the drag strip

Well I went to the track for the first time. Never been down the track before and did pretty not good. Lol. My fastest time was an 8.7 in the 1/8th mile with a trap speed of 87.75. I think if I could actually get a good launch I could do a lot better. I found that my bike at high RPM doesnt like to go into second also which I think played a big part in my times being slow. Oh the bike had stock gearing scorpion slip-on power commander and K&N. Any thoughts on how fast my times should be?

There's not really a "standard" unless you look at stock sheets from like a dealer.

That doesn't sound too bad at all for 1/8th mile. But then again, I'm the worst judge of distance.

Are you using the clutch to shift into second?

NateDieselF4i 10-09-2010 12:25 AM

Hmmm - I'm not sure what these things run normally, but I don't think that's overly fast.

My 98 Ls1 transam was running midupper 7's in the 1/8th. Granted it wasn't stock.

What year / type is your bike?

01-02'ish 600F4i's are reported to do the 1/4 in 10.75's and lower.

Oh well damn. Again i had a bad launch and was super nervous. The first pass my friend jumped about 4 bike lengths on me but when hit almost full throttle i took the lengths back an then some but missed second so he got me. I think if I had raced before and what not i think I would have done alot better. Oh its an 06 F4i. Nothing fancy. Lol. Yes I'm using the clutch to shift into second it just didn't wanna go into second. I was running 85 in 1st gear which was a huge surprise. Lol.

it's all about finding how comfortable you would be racing lol. j/k. Um really though sounds like you could have a clutch prob in the making. I have the same year F4i and she shifts into second with and without clutch. Busted a 600 Katana's ass cause he called me slow lol.

Don't use the Clutch Next time!!
I just Punked a new Challenger 5.1L last night hehehe

That sounds like 13's to me... 85 in first gear? wtf?

Jay_J 10-09-2010 10:12 AM

I don't think it's a clutch issue I think it's a unskilled rider issue. A guy at the track who had a gsxr 1000 on spray told me that it's common for a bike to not wanna shift at really high RPM. He said if I didn't let out of the throttle enough it probley wouldn't shift. My friend I was racing has s katana 750 and he thinks his bike is way faster then mine but I proved to him last night that it's not. If I could have gotten 2nd gear i would have beat him good. Yes I'm pretty sure i was running 85 or darn close to it in 1st gear.

NateDieselF4i 10-09-2010 01:07 PM

Probably more like 65 in 1st.

Idk my trap speed was 87 and I hit second just before the finish. Unless I picked up that much speed in such a small space?
