Fairing Help
Hey everyone, i am a new bike owner..
Just picked up my 01 CBR F4i This weekend!!!! Did my MSF got my license and now i am ready to ride!
My frist project i want to work on is my right fairing, the last owner had the bike down, there arent any cracks but there are parts of it that are scratched up.
Ive been reading painting forums for the last 2 hours or so, and i just had some questions about the process...
So this is what i understand i need to do..please correct me if i am wrong.
OHH YEAH my bike is the pearl white/Red color scheme..i dont know if thats important in the Painting technique but yea..
So the steps...I am planning on using CAN spray, not a gun..on a budget.
1. Scuff the area with a 220-320
2. 2 part finishing putty and then sand with a 400 (wet)
3. Prime it, sand with 400 (wet) Priming with small coats not one big
4. Prime again, but sand with a 600 (wet) Then Clean with a wax/grease remover
5. Spray final color (ENAMEL) wet sand the final color with a 1200 (wet)
6. SPray 3-4 Clear coats
Heres a pic....
PLEASE let me know if this is right..i know that with diferent colors there are different techniques and this is only a general one...again i have NO CRACKS just scratches!!!!
Let Me know!!
THanks everyone!!

RE: Fairing Help
You are going to have to level the area with some block sanding before you start. Matching the red will be all but impossible, just so you know. For the time, and material cost you'd be cheaper to just replace the fairing. Any honda dealer should be able to get it.
Most folks just end up painting the bike flat black or white and calling it "custom" because it sounds better than "repair".
Best of Luck!
