F4i temp to high?

today i took my first real ride with a few of my buddies toward the end of the ride i was in kinda stop and go for about 5 minutes or so. i looked down and saw my temp gauge was at 227 degees. its kinda shocked me and i kept my eye on it. thankfully traffic cleared up and i was able to start riding at about 60 mph. it cooled down to 180 but is that too high for the bike? it seemed really hot between my legs while riding. should my fan have kicked in by then? maybe its not working or something. should i do a radiator flush?

I'm not sure in F but my fan kicks in around 107 C, So around the same temp. So if it just sat at that temp or went up and down a couple times then your fan was most likely kicking in to keep it there.
I would say you have nothing to worry about.

No that's normal, if its warm outside and i'm stuck in town mine gets up to around there as well

yeah nothing to worry about. Where are you from/how warm was it? In stop and go traffic they heat up pretty quick, mine used to get up to around 230 in traffic in the summer. Thats right when the fan should kick on though. 185 is ideal but anything around 180-195 for a normal riding temp is just fine so dont bother with radiator flush, or at least hold off till after winter.

Once youre seeing average temps of over 200 when youre not even beating on it/riding it hard and its not scorching hot out then consider all that. But until then, enjoy.

I'm from southern california. and i was on pch literally next to the ocean. it was probably about 70-75 degrees or so.. our "WINTER" lol i love it!!

Fan should kick in before 227 tho. If it hasn't, there might be a problem with the fan or the switch

hockeyryan 11-25-2011 02:11 AM

how can i check those?

Thunder Struck 11-25-2011 06:55 AM

if at 227 the fan didnt come on then apply power and ground to the fan to make sure it works..then if that works make sure the fans for the fan are getting power and ground...if they have power and ground then its mostly the switch is no good

hockeyryan 11-25-2011 03:06 PM

where is the switch located? can anyone post pics?

Thunder Struck 11-25-2011 03:24 PM

its to the left of the fan on the radiator
