F4i starting problems

Hey everybody, I need some help.

As you many know I wrecked my F4i last rear and am so very close to getting it fully back together.

Everything is there minus the plastics. So here is whats going on...

It will turn over, But it won't start. here are the things i've noticed..

Fuel pump won't prime (the obvious problem)
All fuses are good
Left turn signal indicator is solid
Headlights don't come on at all.

The reason I give you this info is because I thought I read somewhere about the headlights not coming on being a sign.

Also, I don't know what the left turn signal indicator being solid may signify.

Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

fuses/relay?

Pretty much identical symptoms here:

front fairing isn't connected properly sounds like.

fuel pump won't prime = no signal from bank angle sensor.

i had the same problem.

All the connections seem fine. I pulled them all apart and there are no bent pins or anything.

FLYOU 06-10-2009 05:35 PM

yeah my connection was solid too and it still didn't work. had to clean up the grounding pin (green wire) and dielectic grease the sh1t out of it in order to get it working again. worked like a champ after i did that. 1 year later and the problem never came back.

If it's solid, then it'll probably be a bank angle sensor issue. if the bike is on it's side, the bank angle sensor will trip and not allow the fuel pump to prime. safety feature. this is not true of the clutch or the kickstand sensor.

however...

The bank angle sensor has nothing to do with the turn singnal and everything to do with the harness. When 2 things are wrong, then they're probably related. Gotta keep that in mind.

so you're saying the turn signal light is directly related to a possible loose connection?

FLYOU 06-10-2009 06:29 PM

yep. Look at my 1st pic. All of the lights are on. turn signals were both activated but the headlights wouldn't work.

If only 1 turn signal is activated, you might be getting a partial connection...

I just discovered a few things...

When I turn on the ignition I blow the headlight fuse..

When I use the turn signal selector, I blow the bank angle sensor/ starter fuse...

FLYOU 06-10-2009 07:05 PM

oh well that changes things up a bit lol. thought the fuses were all good.

Well, start around the front harness area and check the wiring for any frays or burning along the way. headlights, turn signals, everything. exposed wire grounding could be arcing. i would disconnect every electrical connection in the front fairing and check for any corrosion or anything out of the ordinary.

most of them you can check without taking off the front fairing.

electrical problems are usually bitch to find, but a cinch to fix.

edit: double check those relay's too.

I know, I hate electrical... But where would we be without it lol.

Actually, let me rephrase that... I love electrical, I just hate diagnosing it.
