F4i overheating. Has new water pump & thermostat
My 2001 F4i has been running hot for the past few months. When I'm in traffic going slow it will heat up pretty quickly. Gets all the way up to 250 degrees F and the red light comes on. When I see it's starting to get too hot I'll lane split and find an open stretch of road so I can hit it to help the engine cool down.
I've dealt with overheating problems on cars before and I know that typically when your vehicle overheats while sitting too long and then cools down when you start moving, it's usually an issue with the cooling fan(s) not turning on but it does turn on and the thing is that my bike constantly seems to be about 15-20 degrees hotter than it used to be in the same conditions, i.e. on the highway, in traffic, hot weather/cold weather, etc. For example, on the highway I average about 190-210 degrees where as my bike used to stay between 170-185 degrees. In traffic I don't remember my bike ever getting past 235 degrees but now it tends to get close to, or right at, 250.
I recently had to change my speed sensor so while I was at it I also put in a brand new OEM Honda thermostat. After that I filled it with coolant, ran the engine with the radiator cap off until the thermostat opened so I could bleed the system, topped off the radiator and the reserve tank, blipped the throttle a couple times to make sure all the air was out, put on the radiator cap on and that was that. After all that it's still at the same temps. The bike also has a brand new OEM Honda water pump which I installed a few months ago when the mechanical seal on it failed and it started leaking coolant through the weep hole. So, the bike has a brand new water pump, brand new thermostat, fresh 50/50 autozone coolant, it's not losing coolant and the cooling fan turns on. So what could be causing the overheating?
