Default F4i exhaust with ? CAT ?

Hi All

I'm new here. Had my CBR for about a year and a half and i'm very happy with it. I dented the exhaust a bit back have been looking for a replacement. All the standard ones i've seen such as http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/honda-cbr-f4i-stock-factory-exhaust-race-stunt-01-02-03-W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem414fb7899dQQitemZ280510 302621QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
All seem to look different to mine. I seem to have what looks like a catalic converter in the mid section (after the split from the down pipes). What is this and would it make a difference if i got an exhaust without one.

Also if i bought an after market exhaust would i need to get the bike re mapped or have a power commander fitted and all that or should i just be able to plug the exhaust 02 sensor into a compatable exhaust and away i go?

Thanks in advance!

Richie

I'm from the UK, i thought that about the cat (or what ever it is) as UK bikes arent emissions tested?

This is the same exhaust as mine.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Woundered if the bit after the 02 sensor plug in is a cat? or if not what is it?

Here in the good old us of a only the cali models have the o2 bung and none of them as far as i know have a cat... but ur right that looks like a cat...

if i were u ide fix the problem by simply getting a aftermarket exhaust... take it to a exhaust shop have them weld in a 02 bung and put ur 02 sensor in it and call it a day....

if u wanted to u could get a power commander... wouldnt hurt but isnt needed

Yes F4i's have cats and all 06's got the 02 sensor, cali version or not. My 06 has both the cat and 02 sensor and as far as I know all f4i's have the cat.

To the original questions: A cat convertor is an emissions device. It does not help or hinder performance. No it will not make a difference if you get one without it as no aftermarket exhausts have them.
As for the aftermarket exhaust, I just put my yosh on and screwed in the 02 sensor and was good to go.

Musta been a new f4i thing ive never seen a cat on a stock f4i pipe (darn technology making things complicated)

This is not entirely true... by removing the cat and keeping the o2 sensor your bike will have a tendency to run much richer...

That's not true. any restrictions in the exhaust will cause a drop in performance. It's just not noticeable unless you're always on the throttle.
