Default F4i covered me in oil

ok so today I was riding to work like normal, when out of now where Im covered in oil and so is my f4i. I shut the bike down and got on the side of the highway safely. I didnt see where the all the oil came from. I put a little bit of oil back in just to see if the bike would turn over and it started right up just fine. Anyone have any ideas on this one.

I just changed the oil and filter last week and it has been running amazing until today.

Throw us a bone. Need more details.

What do you mean covered in oil? like waist down? or a little on your shoe?
If it was your own scalding hot oil on your leg you would know it.

Do you ride around with spare oil on you? did you check oil levels?

Sounds like you drove through something.

What side was the oil coming from? And did you bother to check the oil level in the sight glass before you topped it off to make sure it was yours?

Have you dropped your bike lately? I had a hairline crack in my stator cover and it covered my shoe and pants in oil a couple years ago.

I would take the plastics off and inspect the motor, you will see oil all over the area its leaking from.

ok guys thanks for the input, the oil came up from between the forks and tank and covered me head to toe. I took it to the stealership because i was about a block away from them. They took a look at it and discovered the o ring on the oil filter i had installed a week before was defective and had literately blow in half. so the just charged me the cost of an oil change and even cleaned the bike a little bit for me.

You know, I almost recommended that you look at your oil filter b/c you'd mentioned you'd just changed it. Then, I thought - no - he knows how to secure it properly. Don't often here of o-rings on oil filters doing that. Glad it wasn't anything more serious. :-)
