F4i Battery dies after long ride
Hey All,
Never had this problem until last week. I commute once a week from Long beach to San Diego for work. So I make the drive down, make a quick stop (5min), go back to my bike and the battery is dead. So I have someone jump it for me, ride a short distance and turn off the bike .Turn it back on and it starts fine. Another short ride, again..off, on starts just fine. I make the drive back to Long beach, pull into my driveway, turn off the motor to go open the garage door, come back to start it and its dead again. I was hoping maybe it just needed a good charge, but I haven't made a long trip since to see if it does it again. Anyone else had a problem like this? Or possibly know a diagnosis? Thanks |
Run the charging system tests in the service manual and that might give you a better idea on what the problem is exactly.
I had something along those lines and it was my R/R. |
as stated, check your battery and charging system. charge the battery an have it load tested. put a voltmeter across the battery and see if it is charging (13.5v to 14.5v) at 4000 to 5000 rpms. regulator/rectifiers and burned connectors are very common as well as bad batteries. if it is not charging, be sure to check your stator for a open circuit or short to ground.

I am a new rider, last summer i went to the bank drive-thru. I turned killed the engine but forgot to close the switch. I ended up rolls tarting it. Another time i stalled it at a stop light and didn't start up again. I had to roll start it again. This season, even after sitting in the garage for about 3 months, it started up with no problem. I took a 10 minute ride to the bank, turned it off, came out 5 minutes later and it would not start. anybody have ideas?
