i was planning on doin this but i think im going to have to cut off the rr mounting holes then cut mine off the f4i and weld it on the rr subframe.im also gonna have to make it angle out cuz the rr subframe is like 1.5-2 inches less in height at the mounting holes. has anyone accouplished this yet cuz that pic above does not have the rr subframe thats mounted on the oem f4i subframe!!!

so you can weld aluminum? both subframes, and most of the bike, is aluminum. it would be a lot easier if it were steel. or if you could use steel welding equipment to weld aluminum. welding aluminum requires special equipment, gas, settings, and most of all - skill.

i have the rr swingarm conversion, and just got in the subframe to go along with the seat, tail, and exhaust. i took a quick look (track day this weekend, not tearing it down until after then), and it is completely different. it looks like it would mount about 4 inches behind the frame. actually, that's not such a bad thing. the holes on the rr subframe are closer together vertically than the f4i subframe, and even if the length matched up, they wouldn't come close to bolting up. the horizontal positions are way different that the f4i subframe also, narrow at the top, and wide at the bottom.

that said, that leaves the option for custom brackets between the f4i frame and rr subframe, something that is a lot easier than:

drilling the frame
welding aluminum

if that works, there are 2 more issues:

where/how to attach rear of tank to subframe
match seat to contour of f4i tank

the rr's tank attaches via a bolt all the way through the subframe, allowing it to swivel up and down using the bolt as a pivot point. probably another custom bracket here too, but due to the hoses, the f4i tank won't swivel. much anyway.

Yea you can weld aluminum. If you look at the frame, it has welds all over it. Ive seen people cut pop cans in half and weld them back together before. Of course I worked at a welding shop so.....

You don't need to change subframes. It's just bodywork. You may have to do some drilling/tab welding, but that should be about it.

I think it looks hot, but if you do the 600rr tail, it would really look better if you do the swingarm too.

BTW, I am 99% certain that the 600rr tank cover is plastic like the rest of the fairings. Not sure if the tank itself is metal or plastic because i havent taken one apart yet.

yeah i have a welder to weld steel, stainless, and aluminum. aluminum requires different gasthan stainless and steel (pure argon or 20% helium). yeah i noticed the subframe was smaller vertically thats why im welding it. the tank for the rr has a plastic cover and the tank is aluminum. so the rr tank isnt as high as the f4i tank vertically. thats why the rr has those seat plastics right under the tank. i dont think converting to a rr tank would be that hard. The above pic has the rr tail mounted on the f4i subframe. i would do that but i rather have the rr subframe because it has a higher meaner stance. plus it will look good with the rr swingarm, hotbodies muffler/undertail, and 929 front inverted forks, that im doing.

I have been thinking a lot about trying this mod, anyone have any ideas on just switching the rear plastic like in the pic above and doung the swingarm swap to run the exhaust through it?

The motors are the same (basically) so the header should fit as long as they are similar in length the midpipe should turn up and fit through the subframe. What all do you need to put the 600rr swingarm on the F4i? Shock and linkage? How diferent is the shock geometry, I tried to find a pic but I couldn't find one of the shock angle. I am going to look at a friends 600rr later today, see if I get anymore ideas.

so far parts list includes:
600rr swingarm
600rr shock and linkage
600rr exhaust (full)
60rr tail section
600rr seats.
